ZERO RESPONSE FROM ALL 63 STOCKPORT COUNCILLORS TO SUAA REQUEST TO CONSIDER SUPPORTING WASPI CAMPAIGN
On 21st June, SUAA wrote to all 63 Members of Stockport Council, drawing to their attention a request from Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) that Councils pass resolutions supporting the many women in their constituencies, born in the 1950s, who suffered severe financial detriment when their expected State Pension age was increased by 5 years – {it has since increased by a further year}.
WASPI’s model resolution – which, together with a copy of our letter to the Councillors can be viewed in our bulletin attachments and current campaign materials google drive folder https://tinyurl.com/53e2m9vj – details the gravity of the injustice that these women suffered.
We are extremely disappointed that, 3 weeks after we sent the letter and the model resolution, not one single Councillor has responded.
Please consider – especially if you are yourself affected by this issue – writing to your own ward Councillors, asking them if they will put the model resolution to a Council meeting. Contact details for the Councillors in your ward can be found here : https://democracy.stockport.gov.uk/mgFindMember.aspx – just enter your postcode, then click on each Councillor’s name to get their contact details.
WASPI’s website contains a list of Councils which have already passed the resolution https://www.waspi.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/List-of-Councils-passing-the-amended-motion-developed-in-2022.pdf – the nearest being Wigan Council, where the vote was unanimous.
